About The Project
Nerve is a collaborative R&D project, part funded by the DTI under its Technology Programme.

Our aim is to help regional organisations to share data efficiently for both planning and operational purposes - a requirement of recent national legislation such as the Civil Contingency Bill and Traffic Management Act.

The funding will allow the consortium partners to conduct research in the areas of 3d modelling, real time modelling and dynamic data services. The project team will build a prototype interactive real-time digital model of a geographic region within a web-services environment. The project team has chosen the North East of England region for this purpose.

Nerve will demonstrate its prototype via the use of scenarios. The areas that the scenarios will cover are: -
· Regional resilience - coordination of emergency planning activities on a wider geographic scale
· Emergency incident response - sharing detailed spatial information related to risks and resources in real time
· Streetworks coordination - providing Traffic Managers and Planners with a shared view of streetworks activity and sensitive streets

The duration of the project is two years, and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2007.
